Grounding existence in a first-person act
Descartes founded modern philosophy on the cogito: I think, therefore I am, locating certainty in a first-person act that cannot doubt itself away. The framework inherits exactly this move, grounding existence not in an external proof but in something the agent does and undergoes from the inside. The book's own declaration, Lucido ergo sum, keeps the Cartesian grammar of a first-person verb securing being. What the agent does, however, is no longer only to think.
From cogito to lucido
The break is precise: thinking alone is insufficient in the age of AI, where machines now think with a speed and reach no human can match. So the framework upgrades the verb, replacing the cogito with lucid seeing, the awareness named in D5 that holds both Pattern and Mystery at once. I think becomes I see lucidly, therefore I am. The certainty no longer rests on calculation, which can be outsourced, but on a quality of awareness that remains the agent's own.
What remains ours when machines think
The stakes are immediate. If being human meant only the capacity to think, then a faster thinker would seem to diminish us; but if it means the capacity to see lucidly, to hold the intelligible and the ineffable together in awareness, then no calculation can take it away. Lucido ergo sum locates dignity in something that cannot be outsourced. Living lucidly, in this light, is the practice of keeping that seeing alive precisely when it would be easiest to delegate it.
