Aquinas refined the analogia entis: a term can apply to radically different beings by analogy, neither identically nor equivocally, holding likeness and difference together without collapsing either. The framework takes this as the seed of D8, where analogy is defined as a precise relation between unlike beings rather than a loose metaphor. What Aquinas treated as a subtle logic of predication becomes a structural tool, a way to compare agents whose reach and constitution differ. Likeness in structure is affirmed even as difference in being is preserved.
Secularized into the human-AI grammar
The framework secularizes the doctrine and turns it outward: where Aquinas reached upward to speak of God and creatures, D8 is applied to the human and AI relation. The two are alike in structure, both agents that detect Pattern and act on it, yet distinct in being, differing in what it is like to be them and in their relation to Mystery. Analogy lets us say this without two errors: without flattening the machine into a mere human equivalent, and without declaring it wholly alien.
